Meta will begin personalizing content and ad recommendations on its platforms based on users' interactions with generative AI features. Notifications about this update will start on October 7, 2025, with the change taking effect on December 16, 2025. Users can continue to control the content and ads they see through tools like Ads Preferences and feed controls. Over 1 billion people use Meta AI monthly, and Meta aims to make AI products more relevant and helpful.
Personalization Using AI Interactions
Meta will use interactions with AI tools, such as voice chats or text exchanges, to tailor content and ads, including posts and reels. This means if a user discusses a topic like hiking with Meta AI, they might see related groups, posts, or ads, similar to how their other activities influence recommendations.
Improved Recommendations
User interactions with Facebook and Instagram content have always shaped their feeds. Now, AI interactions will serve as an additional signal to enhance personalization, making content more relevant and reducing unwanted content.
User Control and Privacy
Users can adjust their content and ad preferences anytime. Voice interactions with AI show a microphone indicator and require user permission to activate the microphone. Sensitive topics like religious views, political opinions, health, and ethnicity discussed with Meta AI are not used for ad targeting.
Account Integration
AI interaction data is used across Meta Company Products only if the user’s accounts are linked in the Accounts Center. For example, AI interactions on WhatsApp won’t influence personalization on other Meta products unless the WhatsApp account is added to the Accounts Center.
Implementation Timeline
Notifications about these changes will begin on October 7, 2025, and the use of AI interactions for personalizing content and ads will start on December 16, 2025.
