Meta has introduced a new Advantage+ creative enhancement called [Show Spotlights], accompanied by a related feature in the [Creative setup > Extensions] menu named [Website highlights]. These features aim to make ads more engaging by automatically incorporating content from the advertiser’s website.
Website Highlights
[Website Highlights] are combinations of text and images that Meta’s system automatically selects from the target website. Advertisers can review and disable these combinations individually or turn off the entire section via the Creative setup > Extensions menu.
Show Spotlights
[Show Spotlights] is an Advantage+ creative enhancement that uses the Website Highlights to enrich ads by displaying overlays or pop-ups above the ads. Currently, this feature is limited to Instagram Stories on mobile devices.
Observations and Cautions
The rollout of these features reflects Meta’s ongoing innovation in ad products, aiming to increase ad engagement. However, the frequent updates add complexity to mastering the Meta ads platform. Notably, in some accounts, these features are enabled by default when creating new ads, making them easy to overlook. Specifically, [Website Highlights] are automatically active, and [Show Spotlights] is switched on within the Essential enhancements section at the bottom of the Advantage+ creative selection screen.
While Meta is confident that these Spotlights perform well and do not cause compliance issues, advertisers should remain vigilant about their use and impact.
