Google Ads has introduced a new beta feature called "Set ad format preferences" for Demand Gen campaigns. This feature allows advertisers to select the format in which their video ads should run.
Currently, there are three ad formats available:
- In-stream: Plays before, during, or after other videos and is skippable after 5 seconds.
- In-feed: Appears in Youtube (watch-next, home, search), Discover, and Gmail feeds.
- Shorts: Short-form video feed on YouTube, which users can skip at any time.
To utilize this feature:
- Create a Demand Gen Video ad or modify an existing one.
- Add videos to the ad.
- Enable the setting slider to “set ad format preferences".
However, Google Ads added a note that this feature will be available in Google Ads Editor and Google Ads API later this year. Modifying ads with ad format preferences in these platforms would result in losing the ad format preferences, reverting all videos to show on "all formats".
