"Manage data transmission" in Google Tag is a setting that acts as a Basic Consent Mode control layered on top of an Advanced Consent Mode setup. It enables automatic blocking of ads, analytics, and diagnostic requests if the required user consent is not given. This means that even if Advanced Consent Mode allows tags to fire without consent, "Manage data transmission" can fully block those requests when consent is missing.
For advertising events, it offers granular control by allowing limited data transmission or complete blocking depending on consent status. A key feature is that Google Tag automatically refires the relevant tag when consent is later granted, effectively queuing requests until consent is obtained. This queuing mechanism supports scenarios where consent is delayed, with Google Tag managing the process.
Currently, this functionality applies only to Google's own tags, as Consent Mode is a Google-specific system, and the queuing/refiring does not extend to event requests outside of Google Tag. Additional features related to "Manage data transmission" may be introduced in the future.
