Google has unveiled a suite of new AI-powered features for its Shopping platform, designed to transform how consumers discover and try fashion and beauty products. Announced on March 5, 2025, these tools leverage Google's AI models and Shopping Graph to help users visualize products before purchase.
AI-Powered Fashion Discovery
Google revealed that more than a billion shopping searches occur on its platform daily, with many consumers struggling to find specific items they envision. According to Google, over half of shoppers report difficulties locating clothing items they have in mind.
To address this challenge, Google has expanded its vision match feature to all mobile users in the United States. Previously available only as an experiment in Labs, this tool now allows shoppers to:
- Describe any garment with detailed specifications
- View AI-generated images of what the item might look like
- Browse similar products available for purchase
Users can access this feature by searching for a garment and scrolling to the "Can't find it? Create it" prompt, or by tapping "Create & shop" in the Shopping tab's left panel.
Virtual Beauty Try-On Enhanced with Gemini
Google has also enhanced its augmented reality beauty features using Gemini models. Beginning this week, U.S. shoppers can virtually try on complete makeup looks inspired by celebrities, influencers, and beauty trends.
The company noted that more than half of Americans who use makeup actively seek online inspiration. The new feature allows users to:
- Search for specific celebrity makeup looks or general terms like "spring makeup"
- Try on multiple makeup products simultaneously from various brands
- Visualize full makeup styles combining lipsticks, mascaras, eyeshadows, and eyeliners
To access this feature, users can tap "See the looks on you" when browsing on mobile and select "try it on" to begin.
Expanded Virtual Clothing Try-On
Google has expanded its virtual try-on capabilities beyond tops and dresses to include pants and skirts from hundreds of brands. This update helps shoppers visualize how different styles might look on various body types before making a purchase.
The enhanced try-on feature now offers:
- Visualization of pants and skirts on diverse real models ranging from XXS to XXL
- Improved length accuracy and brand styling
- Updated Machine Learning models that generate complete outfits from tops to shoes
Users can access this feature by looking for products with a "try on" badge in Google Search or the Shopping tab on both mobile and desktop.
These innovations aim to provide more visual inspiration and confidence to shoppers, making it easier to transform fashion and beauty visions into reality while making more informed purchasing decisions.
