Microsoft Clarity will start enforcing consent signals for page visits from the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom (UK), and Switzerland (CH) beginning October 31, 2025. A valid consent signal is necessary to ensure full functionality of Clarity features for users in these regions.
Consent Mode GTM Template Update
An update to the Consent Mode (Google + Microsoft tags) custom template in the Google Tag Manager (GTM) gallery will soon be released. This update will automatically apply the consent state to Microsoft Clarity, aligning with Clarity’s enforcement of consent signals starting in October 2025.
Integration with Google Consent Mode
Microsoft Clarity plans to release a direct integration with Google Consent Mode (GCM) in mid-September 2025. This integration will allow Clarity to automatically interpret and honor GCM consent signals such as ad_storage
and analytics_storage
based on user preferences.
What This Means for Users
- Websites already using GCM will not need to make additional changes once Clarity’s support is live.
- Clarity will seamlessly recognize and apply GCM consent signals without extra configuration.
- Updating the GTM template is recommended to ensure compliance with Clarity’s terms of service, especially if the direct GCM integration is delayed.
The updated template will be posted in the GTM gallery when available.
