Microsoft Clarity will require explicit user consent for users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the UK, and Switzerland starting October 31, 2025. Initial notices will be sent by the end of 2024. To comply, Microsoft is launching consentv2, which offers granular control over analytics and advertising cookies, likely integrating with Microsoft Advertising.
The existing consentv1 method will still function temporarily, but migration to consentv2 is recommended. Consentv2 will soon be available through the Microsoft Clarity by Luratic GTM template.
Enforcement of cookie consent requirements will be phased in, with full enforcement by the October 2025 deadline. Users must send an explicit consent signal to Clarity using supported methods to maintain data collection and feature functionality.
For TNR, no immediate action is needed as user consent signals are already being shared for sessions from the EEA, UK, and Switzerland.
