The Clarity Live Extension has received a visual upgrade, enhancing the user experience for viewing heatmaps and session recordings directly on your site without needing to access the Clarity dashboard. This extension works on both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge and requires Clarity to be installed on the site beforehand. It allows users to analyze dropdowns, page elements, and engagements seamlessly while browsing.
How It Works
Users can download the extension, create a free Clarity account, and navigate to the desired page or experience. The Clarity widget provides icons for heatmaps, area heatmaps, and session recordings, which can be accessed directly on the live site.
Features
Heatmaps: Combines click heatmaps (most clicked elements) and scroll heatmaps (most viewed areas) into one view. It highlights engagement on complex elements like flyouts, popups, and dropdown lists. The “average fold” line shows the average scroll depth of users.
Area Heatmaps: Allows selection of any area on the page, from a single element to the entire page, to view total clicks and click distribution rates, giving more control over engagement visualization.
Session Recordings: Plays individual user sessions on the site next to heatmaps, showing clicks, hesitations, and cursor movements. It simplifies finding recordings related to specific experiences, such as popups, with recordings available from the last three days. Users can filter recordings by selecting areas on the page.
Additional Functionality
The extension can be pinned to the browser, enabling quick access to more recordings and heatmaps via buttons that redirect to the Clarity dashboard. The widget can be toggled on or off as needed.
Benefits
The Microsoft Clarity Live extension helps users quickly identify where visitors engage, encounter issues, and test new ideas without leaving the site or sifting through complex data. It automates the creation of heatmaps and session recordings for easy, on-site analysis.
User feedback is encouraged through a survey to improve the Live Extension experience further.
