Google has introduced several new AI-driven features to enhance both online and in-store shopping experiences.
In-Store Shopping Enhancements
Google Lens, which handles nearly 20 billion visual searches monthly, now offers tailored product insights for in-store shoppers. By snapping a photo, users can access product information, compare prices, and read reviews. This update leverages AI image recognition technology and the Shopping Graph's extensive product listings and inventory data. Initially, this feature is available for beauty products, toys, and electronics in stores that share their inventory with Google. Users can access it via the Google app on Android and iOS in the U.S.
Product Search in Google Maps
Starting this holiday season, Google Maps will allow users to search for products and find nearby stores that sell them. This feature will cover a wide range of items, including home goods, electronics, and groceries, and will be available in the U.S. in the coming weeks.
Enhanced Google Pay Features
Google Pay is expanding its "buy now, pay later" options by adding Afterpay and soon Klarna, alongside existing partners Affirm and Zip. Additionally, Google is extending the use of virtual cards, which conceal card numbers during online transactions, to Discover cardholders in the U.S. This aims to enhance security and prevent fraud.
Fraud Prevention Initiatives
Google is piloting a service to help merchants identify and prevent fraudulent transactions, ensuring a safer payment ecosystem for both consumers and businesses.
These updates aim to provide a more seamless, secure, and informed shopping experience, whether online or in-store.
