Google has introduced Web Guide, an experimental feature in Search Labs that leverages AI to reorganize search results pages for easier information discovery. Web Guide intelligently groups web links by specific aspects of a query, enhancing the search experience by surfacing relevant pages users might not have found otherwise.
How Web Guide Works
Web Guide uses a custom version of Gemini AI to better understand both the search query and web content. It employs a query fan-out technique, issuing multiple related searches simultaneously to identify the most relevant results. This approach is particularly effective for open-ended or detailed multi-sentence queries.
Usage Examples
- Open-ended searches like “how to solo travel in Japan”
- Detailed queries such as “My family is spread across multiple time zones. What are the best tools for staying connected and maintaining close relationships despite the distance?”
Availability and Future Plans
Initially, Web Guide will be available to opted-in users via the Web tab on Search, with an easy option to switch back to standard results. Over time, Google plans to expand AI-organized results to other parts of Search, including the "All" results tab, as they determine where this feature best helps users discover web content.
