YouTube introduces a new feature called gifts, powered by Jewels, to help creators earn money during vertical live streams. Here's a breakdown of how it works and its benefits:
What are Jewels & Gifts?
- Jewels: Digital items viewers can purchase in bundles to send various gifts during vertical live streams.
- Gifts: Engaging animations sent by viewers to show appreciation in real-time.
- Earnings: Creators receive Rubies for gifts sent. 1 Ruby equals 1 cent, so 100 Rubies equal $1.
Eligibility
- Initially available to eligible creators in the U.S. who are part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and have accepted the Virtual Items Module.
- Only U.S. viewers can purchase Jewels and send gifts, but all viewers can see the gifts.
- Gifts can be sent on vertical live streams via the YouTube mobile app.
Setup for Creators
- Eligible creators can enable gifts by visiting the Earn hub in YouTube Studio and accepting the Virtual Items Module.
- Gifts will be automatically enabled on vertical live streams.
- Limited-time bonuses: Eligible creators can receive a 50% bonus on gift earnings (up to $1,000 per month) for the next 3 months.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Revenue Share: No fixed revenue share. Creators earn 1 cent per Ruby.
- Difference from Super Stickers: Gifts are easier to send and appear as overlays on vertical live streams, unlike Super Stickers which appear in the live chat.
- Super Stickers on Vertical Live: Once gifts are enabled, Super Stickers will no longer be available on vertical live streams.
YouTube plans to roll out this feature to other countries in the future. Creators can monitor their live streams via the YouTube mobile app or Live Control Room to see gifts sent.
