TikTok Initiates STEM Content Contest to Boost Education

To participate in TikTok's STEM challenge, users need to submit a STEM communication video to TikTok's STEM feed using the hashtag #STEMTok. There are no specific parameters for submission, but the winners will be chosen by TikTok’s judging panel based on the requirements noted in the announcement video and the overall entertainment value of the submission.

The TikTok STEM competition began on Earth Day, April 22nd, and will conclude on May 31st.

TikTok is emphasizing educational content to boost the app's broader value and utility. This strategic move is also aimed at helping TikTok in its battle against a proposed sell-off ruling in the U.S. By showcasing its value beyond entertainment, TikTok hopes to improve its pitch to U.S. Senators and encourage them to vote against the bill. Additionally, similar to Douyin, the Chinese version of the app, TikTok may be looking to promote more positive, educational content in Western regions to improve its standing with regulators.
