Muse Spark is the first large language model in Meta Superintelligence Labs' new Muse series, designed as a small, fast, and capable AI that supports complex reasoning in science, math, and health. It powers the Meta AI assistant in the Meta AI app and meta.ai, enabling multimodal tasks and advanced problem-solving. Meta has rebuilt its AI stack over nine months, focusing on a scientific model scaling approach where each generation builds on the last.
Upgrades to Meta AI
The Meta AI app and meta.ai have been upgraded with a new look and enhanced capabilities. Users can switch between Instant and Thinking modes depending on the task, and Meta AI can deploy multiple subagents simultaneously to handle complex queries more efficiently. For example, planning a family trip can involve different agents working in parallel on itinerary, location comparisons, and kid-friendly activities.
Multimodal Perception and Real-World Understanding
Muse Spark includes strong multimodal perception, allowing Meta AI to understand images as well as text. It can identify and rank items in photos, compare products, and provide insights without needing detailed user explanations. This capability will extend to Meta’s AI glasses, enhancing real-world understanding.
Health and Visual Coding Capabilities
Meta AI, powered by Muse Spark, offers improved health-related responses, including interpreting images and charts, developed with physician input. It also excels at visual coding, enabling users to create websites, mini-games, and interactive dashboards from simple prompts.
Personalized Assistance and Contextual Awareness
Meta AI now integrates shopping inspiration and brand storytelling from Meta’s apps, helping users with style, purchases, and recommendations. It also provides rich, localized context by surfacing public posts and trending topics from communities, delivering relevant information alongside conversations.
Future Plans and Expansion
The upgraded Meta AI features are rolling out in the US and will expand globally and across Meta platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and AI glasses. Meta plans to offer private API access to select partners and aims to open-source future model versions. Upcoming improvements include richer visual results integrated with Reels, photos, and posts, with credit to content creators.
Commitment to Safety and Privacy
Meta is strengthening safeguards around safety and privacy, starting with a reinforced risk framework. The vision is to build personal superintelligence—an AI that deeply understands users’ worlds by leveraging the relationships and context central to their lives.
