Mastering Internal Linking Audit with Screaming Frog

To find broken internal links using Screaming Frog:

1. Open Screaming Frog and navigate to the Response Codes tab.
2. Look for the Internal broken links listed in this tab to identify any broken links on your site.

To identify orphan pages with Screaming Frog:

1. Go to Configuration > Crawl Config.
2. Only check the Crawl Linked XML Sitemaps box.
3. Run a crawl of the site.
4. After the crawl, go to Bulk Export > Sitemaps > Orphan URLs Inlinks.

This will show you which pages are referenced in the sitemap.xml but are not internally linked to within the website.

To optimize anchor text for internal links using Screaming Frog:

1. Navigate to Internal > HTML to find all of your pages.
2. Click on the link of a given URL you want to review.
3. In the Inlinks section at the bottom, you can see the referencing pages and the Anchor Text used.

This review can be performed for high priority pages to ensure that the anchor text is relevant and optimized for SEO.

Screaming Frog's Crawl Tree graph can be used to visualize the click depth of your content, which is how many clicks it takes to reach a particular page from the home page. To analyze click depth:

1. Run a crawl of your site with Screaming Frog.
2. Once the crawl is complete, look for the Crawl Tree graph within the tool.
3. This graph will show you how far away content is from the home page, allowing you to prioritize pages for internal linking if they are too far down.
