Instagram now lets Meta Verified subscribers choose to only get DMs from other verified users. This helps filter out unwanted messages and have more meaningful conversations. Verified users include important accounts identified by Instagram and users of the Meta Verified program who pay for the service.
This feature is similar to one introduced by Elon Musk for X Premium subscribers, which limits DMs to other paying members. However, X Premium also removed verification from non-paying accounts and later reinstated it for accounts with over 2,500 verified followers.
This feature aims to filter out spam requests and ensure more meaningful conversations. Verified users include important accounts identified by Instagram and paying users of the Meta Verified program. While this setting may not prevent scammers from paying for verification, it could be helpful for those overwhelmed by bot profiles or unwanted messages.
This feature's usefulness depends on the number of DMs a user receives and may only be valuable to a small subset of Instagram users.
