Several new features have been launched on Instagram to enhance connectivity among friends. These include reposts, the Instagram map, and the “Friends” tab in Reels, facilitating easier sharing and interaction.
Reposts
Users can now repost public reels and feed posts, allowing for effortless sharing of interests with friends. Reposts will appear in friends' feeds and a dedicated tab on profiles, enabling users to revisit their reposts. Original posters receive credit for their content, providing creators with increased visibility as reposted content may reach a wider audience. To repost, users simply tap the repost icon and can add a note before saving.
Instagram Map
The Instagram map feature allows users to share their last active location with selected friends, which can be turned off at any time. Users can explore content posted by friends and creators from various locations. Location sharing is optional, and users can customize who sees their location, including options for Close Friends or specific individuals. Parents with supervision settings for their teens can manage their location sharing and receive notifications when their teen starts sharing.
The map displays content tagged with locations, including reels, posts, and stories available for 24 hours. Users can find the Instagram map at the top of their DM inbox, with the feature currently rolling out in the US.
Friends Tab in Reels
The new Friends tab in Reels allows users to view public content their friends have interacted with and recommendations from Blends. This feature encourages conversations about shared interests and helps users discover what their friends are enjoying. Accessing the Friends tab is done by tapping the designated tab at the top of Reels, with options to hide personal likes and comments or mute activity from specific users.
These updates aim to foster deeper connections among users on Instagram through shared experiences and interactions.
