Several new API features and improvements are being introduced this December to enhance content management, collaboration, and performance measurement on Instagram for developers and partners using the Instagram API and Marketing API.
New Insights Metrics
Five new metrics have been added to the Insights endpoint, along with an update to the existing views metric:
- Reels Skip Rate: Measures the percentage of views where users skip a Reel within the first 3 seconds, indicating engagement levels.
- Repost Counts for Media: Tracks how often individual media is reposted, providing insights into specific content reach.
- Repost Counts at Account Level: Offers a comprehensive view of reposts at the overall account level.
- Instagram Profile Visits (Marketing API): Counts visits to an advertiser's Instagram profile after ad interactions, aligning with Ads Manager reporting.
- Updated Views for Crossposted Reels: Introduces metrics for Reels crossposted to Facebook, including total views across platforms and Facebook-specific views.
Instagram Content Publishing API Updates
Enhancements in content management and publishing include:
- IG Media Deleting API: A new endpoint allowing users to delete Instagram media (posts, stories, reels) linked to their Facebook Page.
- Support for Trial Reels: The Content Publishing API now supports creating Trial Reels with configuration options for Facebook and Instagram Login integrations.
Instagram Collaboration API Updates
To facilitate partnerships and co-creation, two new API endpoints are being launched:
- Fetch Collabs API: Enables businesses to query collaboration invites for posts, Reels, and Stories from other users and creators.
- Accept Collabs API: Allows businesses to accept or decline collaboration invites directly through the API, resulting in tagged media appearing in the user’s feed.
