Google Podcasts is shutting down soon, users urged to move to YouTube Music

Users of the Google Podcasts app need to migrate their subscriptions to YouTube Music by April 2. After this date, they will no longer be able to stream from the Google Podcasts app directly.

The Google Podcasts app will be shut down, and users will not be able to stream from the app directly. However, Google will allow users to use the app’s export feature to save their subscriptions until July 2024.

Google is moving podcast services to YouTube Music as part of its broader plan to centralize its audio services under YouTube. This shift could help Google become a bigger player in the podcasting space by combining efforts, sharpening its focus, and capitalizing on the rising interest in video podcasts, which are already popular on YouTube.

By the end of 2023, YouTube Music was able to support podcasts globally, and by February, users had the ability to upload their RSS feeds to the platform.

The Google Podcasts app will only be usable through the end of March 2024 in the U.S. After that, the app will be shut down, but the export feature will be available until July 2024 for users to save their subscriptions.
