Google has expanded its "About this image" feature to Circle to Search and Google Lens, allowing users to quickly get more context on any image they encounter. This tool can be particularly useful when you come across an unfamiliar image online or receive one via text.
Using "About this image" with Circle to Search
If you have an Android device with Circle to Search enabled:
- Long press the home button or navigation bar to activate Circle to Search.
- Circle or tap on the image on your screen.
- Swipe up to see Google Search results and tap the "About this image" tab to find more information.
Using "About this image" with Google Lens
To use Google Lens:
- Screenshot or download the image.
- Open the Google app and tap the Lens icon in the search bar.
- Select the image from your gallery, swipe up to see more results, and tap the "About this image" tab.
Benefits of "About this image"
- Context from other sites: See how an image is used and described on other pages, including news and fact-checking sites.
- Image metadata: Access metadata like the creator and creation details, though this can be altered by the uploader.
- Digital watermark: Identify AI-generated images through Google's DeepMind's SynthID watermark.
Availability
"About this image" is available in 40 languages and is rolling out on select Android devices and Google Lens in the Google app for both Android and iOS.
