Google has officially discontinued its AI while browsing feature, previously known as SGE while browsing. The company did not provide specific reasons for removing the feature but has updated its help documentation to indicate that the feature is no longer available.
What Was AI While Browsing?
According to Google's original description, the feature was designed to help users engage more deeply with long-form content from publishers and creators. It aimed to make it easier for users to find specific information while browsing the web.
The AI while browsing functionality allowed users to tap and see an AI-generated list of key points covered in an article, complete with links that would take them directly to the relevant sections on the page.
Additionally, the feature included an "Explore on page" function that showed users questions the article answered, allowing them to jump straight to the relevant sections to learn more about specific topics.
This removal represents another shift in Google's approach to integrating AI features within its search ecosystem, following various experiments with AI-enhanced search capabilities over the past year.
