Google Ads is introducing a new feature that prompts users to switch from a personal email address to a business email address. This change aims to enhance account security and minimize abuse potential. The feature could impact Google Ads API and Google Ads scripts developers.
The feature operates as follows:
- The account administrator sends a request to an account user via the Google Ads UI to switch their email.
- If the user agrees, a business email address is added to the Google Ads account.
- A one-month grace period begins, during which both the personal and business email addresses are active.
- The personal email address is removed from the Google Ads account after the grace period.
Developers may need to take additional steps:
- If a user has authorized an application to make API calls to the Google Ads account using their personal email, the OAuth 2.0 refresh token will cease to function once the personal email is removed. The user needs to be authorized with the new business email.
- This change only applies to Google Ads accounts. If the user manages other accounts, such as Google Analytics or Google Merchant Center, the email address needs to be manually switched in those accounts.
- If Google Ads Scripts have been authorized and scheduled with the personal email address, they need to be authorized with the business email after this change.
