Google Abruptly Halts Video Carousel Structured Data Test

Google ended support for the video carousel structured data because, after testing, they found it wasn't useful for the ecosystem at scale. The decision was based on feedback from a test with a group of site owners.

Site publishers do not necessarily have to remove the video carousel structured data from their websites, as other search engines may still find it useful. However, Google will no longer use it to generate rich results.

Google made several changes to the video structured data documentation, including:

• Removing the paragraph that described how to enable users to explore video gallery pages with ItemList structured data.
• Deleting the entire structured data example that provided a JSON-LD code snippet.
• Removing the link to the 'Carousel guidelines' from the guidelines section.
• Eliminating the phrase that instructed how to mark up pages with a list of videos for a video host carousel.
• Taking out the entire section that listed the recommended properties for the structured data.
