Communities are being introduced on Threads as public, casual spaces for exchanging perspectives on various topics like basketball and TV. Currently in testing for over 100 popular topics, communities enhance user experience through custom feeds and topic tags, facilitating connections among users with shared interests.
As Threads has expanded, users have formed communities around their passions, making it easier to stay updated on relevant conversations. Active interests include NBA/WNBA Threads, TV Threads, and KPop Threads. Membership in these communities is public, with joined communities pinned in feeds and tagged on profiles, showcasing user interests. Each community features a unique Like emoji to foster a sense of belonging among members.
Users can discover communities by searching or tapping community tags on posts. A three-dot icon indicates a dedicated community, and joining is as simple as tapping "Join." While not every interest has a community yet, over 100 are available, with more on the way.
Upcoming features include special badges for standout contributors who are highly engaged in their communities, as well as ranking within communities and the For You feed to prioritize relevant posts. More features aimed at enhancing connections around favorite topics are in development.
