You can now import cost data from Snap directly into Google Analytics, allowing automatic tracking of Snap cost data such as “Ads cost,” “Ads clicks,” and “Ads impressions” for paid Snap traffic. This integration can pull up to 24 months of historical Snap Ads data, but caution is needed to avoid duplicated data if manual cost imports already exist; overlapping datasets should be deleted before proceeding.
Prerequisites
- You must have at least the Analyst role for Snap Ads and Editor role in Google Analytics.
- Destination URLs for Snap ads must include these URL parameters:
- utm_source (required)
- utm_medium (required)
- utm_campaign (optional but recommended)
- utm_id (optional but recommended)
- All paid Snap traffic should use a single unique value for utm_source and utm_medium. These values must exactly match the "Campaign Source" and "Campaign Medium" entered during configuration.
Steps to Import Cost Data from Snap Ads
Create a new data source
- In Google Analytics Admin, go to Data import under “Data collection and modification.”
- Click Create data source, name it, select Cost data as the type, and choose Snap as the import source.
- Click Next.
Set up connection
- Click Connect to link Snap as the data source.
- Sign in to Snap Ads with your credentials and log in.
Configure the data
- Select the Snap Business and Ad account managing the data.
- Enter the Campaign source and Campaign medium values matching the utm parameters in your Snap ads’ URLs.
- Click Next to proceed with automatic field mapping.
Review and import
- Review all fields, modify data source name, import schedule, or filters if needed.
- Click Finish and then Done to complete.
- Imports may take up to 30 minutes to complete and up to 24 hours for data to appear in reports.
How to Locate Parameters in Snap Ads
- Log in to your Snap Ads account.
- For each ad, verify that utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, and utm_id are included in the destination URL.
- These parameters are necessary for successful cost data import.
This integration streamlines the process of tracking Snap ad performance within Google Analytics while ensuring data consistency and accuracy when configured properly.
