A new feature called Query Groups was introduced in Search Console Insights. This feature addresses the challenge of analyzing search performance data, where multiple variations of the same query can complicate understanding user intent. For instance, different ways to ask about "how to make guacamole dip" include variations like "recipe for guacamole dip" and "easy guacamole dip recipe."
Functionality of Query Groups
Query groups simplify this analysis by clustering similar queries together, providing a clearer overview of user interests without clutter. The grouping is powered by AI and may evolve over time, but it does not influence ranking.
Insights Report Enhancements
The Queries leading to your site card in the Insights report presents:
- Group Performance: Displays total clicks for the entire query group.
- Queries List: Shows individual queries within the group, ordered by clicks.
- Drill-Down: Allows users to click on a group for detailed performance reports of individual queries.
Group Variations
The card categorizes website queries into three types:
- Top: Groups with the highest click volume.
- Trending up: Groups with the most significant increase in clicks compared to the previous period.
- Trending down: Groups with the most significant decrease in clicks compared to the previous period.
Availability
This feature will gradually roll out over the coming weeks and will be accessible as a new card in the Search Console Insights report. It is specifically designed for properties with a large volume of queries, as grouping is less relevant for sites with fewer queries.
Feedback is encouraged through the provided thumbs up and down options, and users can also share comments on LinkedIn or in the Google Search Central Community. The announcement was made by Moshe Samet, Product Manager Lead for Search Console.
