The onboarding process for the Instagram API has been simplified, addressing long-standing feedback from developers and businesses about its complexity. Previously, businesses had to connect a Facebook page to their Instagram account, but this requirement has been removed.
What's New?
The updated Instagram API onboarding flow, launched on July 23, 2024, includes several key changes:
- Simplified Onboarding Steps: The number of steps in the Instagram business onboarding flow has been reduced. Businesses no longer need to use Facebook login or connect their Instagram account to a Facebook Page when using a messaging partner.
- Optimized Developer Onboarding: Clearer guidance is provided on what developers need when creating, testing, and reviewing their apps.
- Reduced App Review Friction: Developers now only need to apply for Instagram-related permissions, instead of both Facebook and Instagram permissions.
While support for the Instagram API with Facebook Login will continue, the new Instagram API with Instagram Login is recommended to take advantage of these updates. Developers can refer to the developer documentation for more details.
