Meta has unveiled significant enhancements to its Meta AI assistant, introducing new personalization capabilities aimed at delivering more tailored user experiences across its platforms.
Meta began rolling out a new memory feature for Meta AI in late 2024, enabling the AI assistant to retain specific user-shared information during one-on-one conversations on WhatsApp and Messenger. This feature allows the AI to learn user preferences and provide more relevant recommendations in future interactions.
The AI can now remember user-specified preferences, such as dietary restrictions or personal interests, through both direct user input and contextual understanding. For instance, if a user mentions being vegan during a conversation about breakfast recipes, Meta AI will factor this dietary preference into future culinary suggestions.
Cross-Platform Integration
The enhanced personalization features are being implemented across multiple Meta platforms, including:
- Messenger
The rollout is currently limited to iOS and Android users in the United States and Canada.
Advanced Content Recommendations
Meta has expanded its AI-driven content recommendation system to provide more personalized suggestions through Meta AI. The system utilizes various data points to create tailored recommendations, including:
- User location data from Facebook profiles
- Content viewing history
- Stored user preferences
- Family information
For example, the AI can now combine a user's location, entertainment preferences, and family composition to suggest relevant local activities and venues that match their interests and circumstances.
Meta emphasized that the memory feature is exclusively active in private conversations, excluding group chats. Users maintain control over their data, with the ability to delete stored information from Meta AI's memory at any time.
