A year after launching Teen Accounts, hundreds of millions of teens have been placed in these accounts across Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger, with global rollout ongoing. Teen Accounts include automatic protections addressing parents' concerns about online interactions and content exposure, enhancing safety and ensuring productive online time. Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, emphasizes the importance of these measures in providing parents peace of mind while allowing teens to connect and explore safely.
In addition to supporting parents, a School Partnership Program has been introduced for US middle and high schools, developed in collaboration with educational organizations. This program enables educators to report safety concerns, such as bullying, directly to Instagram for prioritized review within 48 hours. Schools that join receive benefits like prioritized reporting and educational resources to navigate social media safely.
Furthermore, a partnership with Childhelp has led to the creation of an online safety curriculum for middle schoolers, aiming to reach one million students. This curriculum teaches students about online safety, including recognizing signs of exploitation and seeking help. It is fully funded by Meta and available for free, featuring comprehensive resources for educators and parents. A peer-led version of the curriculum has also been developed to engage high school students in teaching their younger peers.
Instagram remains committed to enhancing safety for teens and parents, with ongoing efforts to improve online experiences.
