Google Warns Indexing API May Cease Support for Unsupported Content Overnight

The Google Indexing API is intended specifically for job postings and live stream content. It is designed to allow developers to notify Google when these types of content are created or updated, in order to be indexed more quickly.

While the Google Indexing API may technically work for unsupported content formats such as real estate websites, Gary Illyes from Google advises against it. The API is not designed for such content, and using it for unsupported verticals could result in the content being dropped from the index quickly or the functionality being disabled without warning.

Using the Google Indexing API for purposes other than job postings and live stream content can lead to several issues:

• Google has stated it won't work properly for other types of content.
• John Mueller of Google mentioned that most sites using the Indexing API incorrectly tend to be spammy or of low quality.
• Content might get indexed quickly but then drops out of the index quickly after, as many have experienced.
