Google is testing a feature for Google Business Profiles that allows businesses to add SMS and WhatsApp messaging support to their Google Maps listings. This follows the discontinuation of Google's native chat feature.

The new "chat" section in Google Business Profiles would enable businesses to include their SMS and/or WhatsApp numbers, facilitating easier contact via Google Maps and Google Search. This indicates a shift from maintaining Google's messaging service to integrating popular platforms like SMS and WhatsApp.

This test comes after Google announced the discontinuation of its Business Profile chat feature by July 31.
