Google has added several new diagnostic alerts and recommendations to the Tag Diagnostics tool in Google Tag settings, helping users identify and resolve implementation issues more effectively.
New Diagnostic Alerts
The Tag Diagnostics tool now includes three new alerts to help users identify potential problems:
Your tag data may be restricted - This recommendation appears when the system detects the use of a Content Delivery Network (like Cloudflare) that Google supports, but where first-party mode is not enabled. Users can either enable first-party mode or dismiss the recommendation.
Missing gtag config command - This diagnostic is triggered when Google detects that a Google tag code isn't configured correctly, which may prevent properties from measuring automatic events. To resolve this issue, users should place their Google tag configuration code immediately after the opening
<head>
HTML tag on all website pages.Missing Google tags - This alert appears when event tags in Google Tag Manager don't have matching Google tags. The fix requires adding a Google tag for each measurement product being used, including Google Ads, Google Analytics, and Floodlight.
New Dismissal Option
Google has also introduced the ability to dismiss certain tag diagnostic alerts. Key points about this feature include:
- Dismissed alerts can reappear if specific conditions are met
- Dismissing alerts won't affect overall tag quality
- Dismissed items will be moved below active action items
Not all alerts or recommendations can be dismissed, maintaining visibility for critical issues that require attention.
These new diagnostic features help users ensure proper tag implementation and data collection across their digital properties.
