Google Analytics has unveiled a new capability that allows users to copy custom detail reports and explorations across different GA4 properties. This feature aims to streamline reporting workflows and enhance data analysis efficiency.
The new functionality enables copying of:
- Custom detail reports including all summary cards
- Private or shared custom explorations with all associated tabs
This feature is available to both standard and 360 Analytics properties, providing flexibility for organizations managing multiple properties.
Important Requirements and Limitations
To utilize this feature, users must have appropriate access levels:
- Editor or above access for copying custom detail reports
- Viewer or above access for copying explorations
The system currently has some limitations. Users cannot:
- Copy default reports or custom overview reports across properties
- Auto-create custom dimensions, metrics, summary cards, segments, and audiences
- Copy reports within the same property
- Retain unsampled data tabs when copying explorations
When copying reports, Google Analytics creates a snapshot of the configuration at the time of copying. The copied report operates independently of the original, functioning as if created directly in the selected property.
Property Quotas
Google Analytics maintains strict limits on report creation:
- Up to 150 custom reports per property
- Maximum of 200 individual explorations per user per property
- Up to 500 shared explorations per property
Post-Copy Requirements
After successful copying, users should:
- Update any invalidated customizations in the selected property
- Configure necessary custom dimensions, metrics, and audiences
- Set appropriate access permissions for other users to utilize the copied reports
