YouTube Masthead allows brands to showcase their products or services in a native video-based ad format that appears in the YouTube Home feed across all devices.
Types of YouTube Masthead
- Cost per Thousand Impression (CPM) Masthead: This option provides a reserved and fixed volume of impressions delivered over the campaign duration. It is available globally through Google Representatives or directly in Display and Video 360 (DV360) Instant Reserve or Google Ads Reservation.
- Cost-Per-Hour (CPH) Masthead: This option provides 100% share of voice (SOV) of eligible impressions during the reserved hours. It is available only through Google Representatives.
Available Assets
- YouTube Video URL: Must be 'Public' or 'Unlisted' and recommended to be 16:9 with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 or higher.
- Headline: Text that appears next to, on, or under the Masthead.
- Call to Action Button Text: Text in the call-to-action button.
- Final URL: Mandatory when using a call-to-action button, can link to other YouTube pages or external websites.
- Click-Tracking URL: Optional URL to track click activities.
- Supporting Description Text: Optional description accompanying the Masthead.
- Primary Video Layout: Choose between 'Widescreen' or 'Standard video size'.
- Autoplay Timing: For desktop, videos autoplay for up to 30 seconds.
- Companion Videos: Optional videos that appear next to the Masthead ad on desktop.
- Channel Art: Background or banner from the YouTube Channel.
- Channel Icon: Icon representing the YouTube channel.
Pricing
- Fixed CPM price with upcharges based on targeting criteria.
- Rates vary by market, targeting one country per campaign.
- Final CPM price available during campaign construction.
Reporting Tools
Metrics supported in reporting:
- Impressions
- Impressions (co-viewed)
- Clicks to video
- Video viewership (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%)
- Clicks to your website
- Clicks to YouTube channel
- Clicks on companion videos
Third-Party Measurement
- Allowed: Ad impressions (1x1 pixel URL) and clicks to your website (redirect URL).
- Not allowed: Pixels for audience composition data and JavaScript pixels. Third-party viewability is not allowed on YouTube homepage formats.
Additional Notes
- Use the YouTube Masthead Preview tool to see how your assets appear across different devices.
- Some assets like 360 videos and app install campaigns aren’t supported, and YouTube Premieres have limited support.
- Ensure all creatives within a Masthead use the same final URL’s domain.
- Finalize channel art and icon a few days before running the Masthead ad.
