Google is introducing social channels within the Google Search Console Insights report, allowing site owners to review the Search performance of social channels linked to their websites directly within Search Console. This update provides a unified view of Google Search performance across both websites and associated social channels.
New Features in Search Console Insights
The expanded report will show key performance metrics for each social channel, including:
- Total reach: Total clicks and impressions driving traffic from Google to the social channel.
- Content performance: Top social channel pages and those trending up or down.
- Search queries: Top and trending queries leading users to social profiles.
- Audience location: Top countries where users click on the social channel in Search results.
- Additional traffic sources: Total clicks from other sources such as Image Search, Video Search, News Search, and Discover.
Rollout and Availability
This feature is currently an experiment, rolled out to a limited set of websites. Insights are available only for sites and channels that Search Console automatically identifies and associates with the website. Users will be prompted to add these social channels within the Search Console Insights report.
Purpose and Feedback
The integration aims to help site owners better understand their combined performance across websites and social channels. Google encourages feedback through thumbs up/down buttons in the report cards, the "Submit feedback" link, or community discussions on LinkedIn and the Google Search Central Community.
The announcement was made by Hillel Maoz, Search Ecosystem Engineering Manager.
