Beginning February 19th, Facebook Live videos will have a new storage policy, allowing them to be replayed, downloaded, or shared for 30 days after broadcasting, after which they will be automatically deleted. This change aligns Facebook's policies with industry standards and reflects the trend that most views occur shortly after the live event.
All live videos older than 30 days will be removed in waves over the coming months. Users will receive notifications before deletion, giving them 90 days to download, transfer, or convert their old live content.
Downloading Live Videos
Facebook is introducing several tools to facilitate the downloading of live videos:
Single Download: Users can download individual videos from their profile or Page by accessing the Videos tab, selecting the video, and choosing “Download video.”
Bulk Download: Users can download multiple videos by tapping the notification, selecting “Download live videos,” and specifying the download location and date range.
Transfer Live Videos: Users can transfer videos to linked cloud storage providers like Dropbox or Google Drive.
Converting Live Videos to Reels
Users can clip and share shorter moments from their live videos as reels, allowing them to keep favorite moments on their profile beyond the 30-day limit.
Postponing Deletion
If additional time is needed to download old live videos, users can postpone deletion for an extra six months by following the steps provided in the notification.
This update aims to enhance user experience while ensuring that live video content remains relevant and accessible.
