Facebook is transitioning all video uploads to the reels format to simplify video creation and sharing. This change means users will no longer need to choose between uploading a video or a reel, as all videos will now be shared as reels without length or format restrictions. The creation process will be streamlined, offering more creative tools while maintaining existing audience controls to ensure posts are seen only by intended viewers.
Unified Video Creation and Audience Control
Previously, uploading videos to Feed and posting reels required different processes. Facebook is unifying these into a single, simplified publishing flow. Users will be prompted to confirm or select their audience settings when posting reels, with privacy controls unified across Feed posts and reels. Users can share reels publicly or restrict them to friends or select groups, retaining full control over who views their content.
Reels Tab and Video Discovery
The Video tab on Facebook will be renamed the Reels tab, reflecting the new focus on reels for all video content. Despite this change, Facebook will continue recommending videos personalized to user interests, including reels of all lengths from a growing creator community. The update does not affect the variety of video topics or lengths available.
Existing Content and Future Posts
All previously shared video content will remain accessible on profiles or Pages, and creators remain eligible for content distribution. However, moving forward, every new video posted will be in the reels format, reinforcing Facebook’s commitment to making video sharing easier and more engaging.
