X is experimenting with adding a Communities shortcut to the bottom navigation bar, increasing the number of icons to six. This contrasts with Twitter's previous management, which preferred a four-icon limit to avoid clutter.
The change aims to maximize the use of Communities, which has seen significant growth. Time spent on Communities has increased by 600% over the past year, with over 350,000 communities and around 650,000 daily posts. X has also introduced updates like improved recommendations, in-group search, and trending highlights.
The new tab could further boost engagement, though it's unclear why previous management resisted adding more tabs.
Here's what the X Daily community looks like on the desktop version as well.
