Spotify has introduced a new bespoke typeface, Spotify Mix, which will be used across its app and desktop experiences, replacing the existing Circular typeface. The new font is a 'remix' of various typefaces, inspired by the dynamic and evolving nature of audio culture. It was developed in collaboration with Berlin-based foundry Dinamo Typefaces.
The sans-serif typeface blends features from both classic and contemporary styles, incorporating the shapes of sound waves to evoke a rhythmic feel. The combination of sharp angles and smooth curves gives the typeface a distinctive character that feels quintessentially Spotify.
As a variable font, Spotify Mix allows for changes in weight, width, slant, and other variables without requiring separate files, providing creative flexibility. Spotify plans to use the new font in everything from playlists to marketing campaigns, allowing for more varied content while maintaining a cohesive design.
Spotify's logo will also be updated to the new typeface, which can already be seen on the company's news portal. The rollout of Spotify Mix will start with languages with Latin-based scripts and written content in Vietnamese, and will continue over the coming weeks.
