Spotify has launched its new Partner Program, aimed at helping popular podcast hosts monetize their video content. This program is available for creators in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia, enhancing Spotify's offerings for its 640 million users and 250 million subscribers.
The Partner Program provides eligible creators with multiple revenue streams, including audience-driven payouts from Spotify Premium video engagement and ad monetization on Spotify Free and other platforms. This dual approach offers creators more flexibility and control over their income while improving the user experience with an expanded catalog of video podcasts. Premium users can enjoy uninterrupted viewing, as traditional dynamic ads will not disrupt their experience.
Since the announcement on November 13, over 65% of eligible shows have enrolled in the program. Creators express optimism about the opportunities it presents. For instance, the Smart Money Happy Hour creators appreciate the enhancements for audience engagement, while Jim Harold from The Paranormal Podcast highlights the potential for reaching new viewers through longform video. Zach Misischia from The Makeshift Podcast values the ability to monetize without interrupting the listener experience.
Additionally, Spotify is investing in improving the video viewing experience and allowing creators to utilize video for audience growth. The introduction of podcast clips, short-form videos recommended across Spotify, has shown to be 33% more effective than previews in converting casual listeners into engaged ones.
