Project Starline, a technology project that uses advancements in AI, 3D imaging and other technologies to create a "magic window" for remote communication, is being commercialized. The project, which allows users to communicate as if they were in the same room, has undergone extensive testing across Google offices and with enterprise partners. The results showed that meetings in Starline feel more like being in the same room than traditional video calls, leading to better attentiveness, memory recall, and an overall sense of presence.
The technology is being brought out of the lab with a focus on connecting distributed teams and individuals in the workplace. Google is partnering with HP to start commercializing this unique experience in 2025 and aims to enable it directly from the video conferencing services in use today, such as Google Meet and Zoom.
HP's expertise in computing and their investment in Poly’s collaboration solutions make them ideally positioned to deliver new and innovative experiences worldwide. The partnership marks a significant step towards a world where connection and collaboration are possible no matter where you are. More details about the project will be shared later in the year.
