A new app called noplace has surged to the top of the App Store after launching out of invite-only mode. Designed to appeal to Gen Z and those looking to connect with friends or shared interests, noplace offers customizable profiles similar to Myspace. Users can share relationship statuses, current activities, and interests, and customize their profiles with colors.
Key Features
- Customizable Profiles: Users can personalize their profiles with colors and tags called "stars" to reflect interests like astrology signs, hobbies, and fandoms.
- Text-Based Updates: The app focuses on text-based updates rather than photos or videos, similar to a global group chat or Twitter/X.
- Two Feeds: Users have access to a friends' feed and a global feed, both in reverse chronological order.
- Moderation: The app provides a moderated feed for users under 18 and has an internal moderation team to ensure safety.
- AI Technology: AI is used for suggestions and curation, offering summaries of missed content.
Founder and CEO Tiffany Zhong, who has a background in consumer social apps and early-stage investments, started working on noplace in the second half of last year with a team of seven. The app initially launched in an invite-only beta phase and went viral, particularly among K-pop fans.
noplace aims to offer an alternative to Twitter/X, combining text-based feeds with friend-finding features and customization options. It competes with other Gen Z-targeted apps like Wizz, Yubo, purp, and LMK.
