Microsoft Clarity Launches Funnels to Track User Conversions and Identify Drop-offs

Clarity has introduced a new feature called funnels to help users track the steps taken before reaching a goal or conversion.

What are Funnels?

Funnels are an ordered group of actions a user takes before converting or completing a goal. For example, a checkout funnel for an e-commerce site might include steps like adding items to the cart, beginning checkout, and making a purchase.

Why are Funnels Useful?

Funnels help visualize user progression through a specific flow and identify where users drop off. This information can be used to improve specific steps and increase conversion rates.

Creating a Funnel

Creating funnels in Clarity is straightforward:

  1. Go to the settings page.
  2. Add smart events or URL visits to a funnel.
  3. Enter a name and click save.

Using Funnels

Once created, funnels can be viewed in the dashboard, displaying three key metrics:

  • Conversion rate: Percentage of users who complete the entire funnel.
  • Sessions converted: Number of sessions that completed the entire funnel.
  • Median time to convert: Median time taken to complete the funnel.

The dashboard shows the number of sessions that reached or did not reach each step. Heatmaps and session recordings can be viewed for detailed analysis. Funnel steps can also be used as filters to segment data better.
