Statcounter revised its data showing a significant drop in Google's search market share in April, with gains for Microsoft Bing and Yahoo. The initial data showed Google's share falling to 77.52% from 86.94% in March and 88.88% year-over-year (YoY). Bing grew to 13.05% from 8.04% in March and 6.43% YoY, while Yahoo increased to 7.3% from 2.48% in March and 2.33% YoY.
The revised data shows Google's share at 86.58%, down from 86.94% in March and 88.88% YoY. Bing's share grew to 8.24% from 8.04% in March and 6.43% YoY, and Yahoo's share increased to 2.59% from 2.48% in March and 2.33% YoY.
Although the drop wasn't as drastic as initially reported, Google has been consistently losing U.S. search market share since August 2023, when it was at 89.03%. Its highest share in the past 12 months was 89.1% in May 2023, coinciding with the announcement of Search Generative Experience.
Globally, Google's share is at 90.91%, down from 91.38% in March and 92.82% YoY. Bing's share is at 3.64%, up from 2.76% YoY, and Yahoo's share is at 1.13%, up from 1.11% YoY.
Statcounter is still reviewing its search data for April 2024, and the data could change within the next 40 days during its quality assurance testing and revision period. Statcounter has not yet commented on the issue with its April data.
