Google Lens is introducing two significant updates aimed at enhancing visual search capabilities on iOS. Firstly, iPhone users can now utilize a new Lens option to search directly from their screen within Chrome or the Google app. This feature allows users to perform visual searches by drawing, highlighting, or tapping on the content displayed, eliminating the need for screenshots or new tabs. To access this in Chrome, users can open the three-dot menu and select “Search Screen with Google Lens,” with a Lens icon to be added to the address bar in the coming months. The same process applies to the Google app.
Secondly, Google Lens is expanding its AI Overviews, which provide detailed information about unique images without requiring users to ask a specific question. This feature will help users understand the context of various objects, such as identifying textures on vehicles. The rollout of these updates begins this week for English-language users in regions where AI Overviews are available, starting with the Google app and soon extending to Chrome on both desktop and mobile.
These enhancements aim to improve the user experience by making it easier to search and explore information visually across different platforms.
