Google Chrome is introducing three new AI features: desktop visual search, a product comparison tool, and natural language history search. These features aim to enhance the browsing experience by leveraging the latest Google AI and Gemini models.
1. Google Lens for Desktop
Google Lens, previously available on mobile, is now integrated into Chrome desktop. Users can:
- Select the Google Lens icon in the address bar or invoke it from the right-click or three-dot menu.
- Drag over any web content to search and ask questions without leaving the current tab.
- Receive visual matches and results in a side panel, refine searches by color, brand, or other details, and ask follow-up questions for deeper insights.
- Get AI Overview responses that compile relevant information from across the web.
2. Tab Compare
Chrome introduces "Tab compare" to streamline online shopping:
- This feature generates an AI-overview of products from multiple tabs.
- It consolidates essential details like product specs, features, prices, and ratings into one tab.
- Users can make informed decisions without switching between multiple tabs.
3. Natural Language History Search
Chrome enhances its history search functionality:
- Users can search their browsing history using natural, conversational queries.
- For example, typing "What was that ice cream shop I looked at last week?" will bring up relevant pages.
- This feature is optional and can be turned on or off in settings. It excludes data from incognito mode.
These AI-driven features aim to make browsing faster, safer, and more efficient, with more improvements expected in the future.
