Apple is updating its compliance plan for the Digital Markets Act as announced by the European Commission. These changes, effective this fall, impact developers with apps in the European Union storefronts of the App Store using the StoreKit External Purchase Link Entitlement.
Key Changes
- Communication and Promotion: Developers can promote and communicate offers for purchases available at any destination of their choice, such as alternative app marketplaces, other apps, or websites. This can be done outside the app or via a web view within the app.
- Design and Execution: Developers can design and execute communication and promotion of offers within their apps. This includes providing information about subscription prices or other offers available both within and outside the app, along with instructions on how to subscribe outside the app. All communications must provide accurate information about the digital goods or services.
- Actionable Links: Developers can use actionable links that users can tap, click, or scan to reach their destination.
- URL Usage: Developers can use any number of URLs without needing to declare them in the app’s Info.plist. Links with parameters, redirects, and intermediate links to landing pages are also permitted.
- Updated Business Terms: New business terms for apps with the External Purchase Link Entitlement are being introduced to align with these expanded capabilities.
