Apple is introducing AI-generated summaries for App Store reviews in the iOS 18.4 update, currently in public beta. These summaries, created using Apple Intelligence, will provide key insights from user reviews in a concise weekly format for apps with sufficient reviews.
This feature aims to assist users in making quicker decisions; however, it may also heighten the risk of fake reviews impacting the AI-generated content.
The summaries will initially be available in English (U.S.), with plans to expand to additional markets and languages later in the year.
Apple's move follows similar implementations by competitors like Amazon and Google, which already utilize AI-powered review summaries.
The public release is expected in April, coinciding with the expansion of Apple Intelligence, new Siri Control Center options, and AI-driven notification prioritization. In iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4, users will find a new review summary on the App Store product page, allowing for a quick overview of apps and games. These summaries, generated by large language models (LLMs), will compile highlights from user reviews into a brief paragraph and will be updated at least weekly for qualifying apps. Users can report issues with the summaries, and developers can access them through App Store Connect.
