Google Play Store has expanded its Android Vitals metrics with two new key performance indicators that will impact app visibility and rankings on the platform.
DAU/MAU Ratio
The first metric measures the relationship between:
- Daily Active Users (DAU): Users who open the app at least once per day
- Monthly Active Users (MAU): Users who open the app at least once in 28 days
Apps failing to meet Google Play's DAU/MAU threshold will:
- Receive warnings in their Android Vitals dashboard
- Display warnings on store listings
- Face reduced visibility in certain areas of Google Play
User Loss Rate
This metric compares:
- Users who completely uninstall the app from all devices
- Users who maintain the app on at least one active device (active means used within 30 days)
Similar to DAU/MAU, not meeting the User Loss Rate threshold results in:
- Dashboard warnings
- Store listing alerts
- Limited visibility on Google Play surfaces
These metrics join the existing ANR (App Not Responding) and Crash Rate measurements in determining app rankings. Regular weekly monitoring and optimization of these metrics is now essential for maintaining app visibility and performance on the Google Play Store.
