Apple Maps has launched a public beta version on the web, enabling users to access Maps directly from their browsers. This new web version offers driving and walking directions, place information including photos, hours, ratings, and reviews, and allows actions like ordering food from the Maps place card. Users can also explore curated Guides for various cities. Additional features like Look Around will be introduced soon.
Developers using MapKit JS can link to Maps on the web, providing their users with driving directions and detailed place information. Currently, the web version supports English and is compatible with Safari and Chrome on Mac and iPad, as well as Chrome and Edge on Windows PCs. Apple plans to expand support to more languages, browsers, and platforms over time.
This launch marks a significant move by Apple to compete with Google Maps, expanding Apple Maps' availability beyond iPhone users to a broader audience.
