The State of Technical SEO Report 2024 by Aira and the Women in Tech SEO community reveals that most technical SEOs are not worried about AI impacting their job security. 64% were "not at all" worried, while 36% expressed some level of concern. The report emphasizes that AI cannot fully replace human employees, especially in SEO where the application of common sense is crucial.
Despite this, 70% of respondents were concerned about the impact of Google Search Generative Experience (SGE) on organic search results. The level of concern varies due to the uncertainty of how SGE will be implemented and its reception by everyday users.
Regarding the influence of AI on SEO planning, only 20% of respondents (in-house, agency, and freelancers) reported no changes. The remaining 80% have adjusted their SEO planning due to AI developments, with 59% making slight changes and 21% making significant changes.
The use of AI and machine learning (ML) tools in SEO tasks is prevalent. 52% of respondents use these tools for generating metadata. Other uses include content generation (46%), keyword research (35%), and auditing pages (23%).
The report also reveals that 85% of respondents do not see ChatGPT as a threat to Google, and 70% do not believe Bing can take away Google's search market share. The survey, conducted between Jan. 15 and March 5, received 382 responses, with 56% of respondents from the U.S. and UK.
